PUCP celebrates 106 years of existence and one of its fundamental characteristics is to seek the benefit of the country. In this sense, research has always been part of its activities. Although it began with individual efforts of some distinguished professors, the research work was consolidated and managed to be institutionalized, 14 years ago, with the creation of the Research Vice-president’s Office. This milestone not only made it possible to be part into the organizational structure the efforts that had been made for many years, but also has made it possible to generate rewards, promotion policies and recognitions to boost the research activities developed by our university community.
Because, in this way, the University expands its field of action. That is, besides the training of good professionals, our mission is to provide solutions to the problems of the country with the generation of new knowledge from different disciplines. In addition, we link with the environment (State, companies and international organizations) to create new proposals or strengthen actions that seek the well-being of our society.
The VRI promotes different rewards for research, innovation and creation activities that have a clear component of social impact.
In addition to promoting academic research, we are particularly interested in the development of innovation, since this allows to increase the value of the processes, objects or instruments that emerged from such research works, thus generating new products directly linked to meeting people's needs. The same applies to creation and research-creation.
From the VRI, we encourage the generation of new knowledge that allows a greater development of awareness, aesthetics and critical thinking from the prior art that, in the long term, result in a better citizen education to the problems encountered in the country.
We understand that our society will face new challenges in the coming years and, for this, we need to be ready.”
Aldo Panfichi, Ph.D.
Vice-president for Research
The COVID-19 pandemic represented a global challenge in which all social, health and education structures were shaken. In this respect, from the beginning, PUCP considered it important to make available to our country the knowledge that had been developed in some disciplines and also the will of several researchers who could contribute to a better defense of the impact generated by the pandemic.
The mechanical ventilators, the oxygen plants, the health programs and all the mechanisms that we were able to provide during this difficult time for the country are a sign that, precisely by being committed to research, we are in abetter position to respond to these challenges. This, at the same time, allows us to reaffirm our institutional commitment to make available to society our University's powers.
We understand that our society will face new challenges in the coming years and,for this, we need to be ready. PUCP is consolidating and increasing its human capital through the attraction of young talents and research incubators; we are also seeking to expand our areas of knowledge to new problems, and we a restrengthening the infrastructure of laboratories and training facilities. This will allow us to continue serving the country and improve the quality of our educational programs.
